Thanks to Ronald A., one of Gary’s readers on View from the Wing, for finding this. It looks like Chase has brought back another 100,000 point offer on the British Airways Visa Signature Card.
There have been several different versions of the 100k offers in the last couple years, but most involved a pretty large spending requirement in order to get the full bonus. This offer is no exception.
- You will get 50,000 bonus Avios after $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
- 25,000 bonus Avios after $10,000 in purchases within the first year of account opening.
- Plus an additional 25,000 bonus Avios after you make an additional $10,000 in purchases also within the first year of account opening.
Clearly this offer isn’t for everyone as you will need to run $20,000 through the card the 1st year in order to obtain the full 100,000 Avios. But if you are big spender or can manufacture a lot of spend then you could get some real value out of this offer.
Unfortunately the annual fee of $95 is not waived with this offer so keep that in mind. 100,000 Avios is enough for a round trip business class ticket from Seattle to London but you would have to pay over $600 in fuel surcharge, taxes and fees. But for short-haul flights you can get a lot of value. For example, from Chicago to Toronto or Washington DC is only 4,500 Avios in coach on American Airlines and you won’t get hit with fuel surcharges. For 100,000 Avios you could come away with 11 round-trip or 22 one-way tickets if you play your cards right!
