Last Day to Book Hyatt Awards Before Redemption Rates Change

I know every blog is mentioning it and I hate to be a parrot. But, I figure it I need to remind everyone  just in case you have missed it.

Back in November Hyatt announced the roll-out of changes to the Hyatt Gold Passport program including a new award chart set to take effect tomorrow January 7th, 2014. Hyatt is leaving alone the standard rates for category’s 1-4 however they have added a 7th tier which raises the highest redemption rate from 22,000 up to 30,000 point/night.

Category 5 and 6 redemption rates are going up 11% and 13.6%. Looking to book a suite in a top-tier property such as The Paris Vendome which is being moved from a category  6 to a category 7? Those rates are going up 48% as of tomorrow!

Six properties are being moved up from category 6 to category 7 with an additional 3 more moving to a  category 6 from a 5.

Club and Suite upgrades on paid stays are also being decimated with a potential 4 fold increase depending on the length of the stay.

Currently upgrades require the same amount of points for anywhere from 1 night stay up to a 4 night stay.

Club room upgrades will increase from 3,000 points for 1-4 nights to 3,000 PER night.

Upgrades to a suite will go from 6,000 points for 1-4 nights to 6,000 PER night.

The moral of the story is to earn and burn baby! If you have any intentions of redeeming Hyatt points this year, you need to make your booking today. Remember, most bookings are fully cancellable and you can make changes to those bookings up until Feb 15th and still pay the old rates.

There are some positive changes coming tomorrow as well including points & cash rates and a longer expiration date on points as well.
