How to Get to Maui Free This Winter

It is getting to be that time of year again up here in the northern parts of the US where the weather is starting to cause us all to daydream about Maui or some other island where the sun is actually shining and you can’t see your breath whenever you go outside! Time to start planning a getaway to somewhere warm! Don’t get me wrong, I like snow and I enjoy building snow forts with my kids and having snowball fights but seriously, -5 tonight!? By the end of February I will be more than ready for a beach. I am contemplating cashing in some miles and points for a free trip to Maui or somewhere ever farther south for the end of February or the first week of March.

I’m sure I’m not the only one starting to think like this! Here is a simple churn that could land you with a free trip to Maui to escape the frigid cold. Although it might be a little late for this winter (unless you are a big spender and can hit the minimum spends fast!) but it is never to soon to be set up for next fall or winter!

Getting the free flights to Hawaii:

The US Airways Premier World MasterCard® – Requires 40,000 miles for round-trip from mainland to Hawaii, and US Airways is extremely flexible for routing on award travel as you can also use the miles for flights on United Airlines.

Considering that pretty much anyone can apply for the business card as a sole proprietor (meaning it is just you and not incorporated) the business card w/ the personal card will net you 60,000 points (50k bonus + 10k for the spending) This could give you 6 nights in the beautiful Westin Maui Resort and Spa. As a category 5 this hotel is generally 12k per night + you get the 5th night free.

If you are a couple you could each just get 1 airline card and 1 SPG card and you are set!!
