Delta Devalues International Business Elite Skymiles Award Redemptions

I guess it should not come as any big surprise, but today Delta has announced that they are increasing the amount of miles required for low-level international award tickets in BusinessElite class.

The increased redemption levels range from a 6.7% increase for flights to the Southwest Pacific to as much as a 25% increase on awards to Europe and Southern South America!

The changes are effective immediately for award travel taking place on or after June 1, 2014 and only result in increases to the low level awards. Below is a comparison of the current rates and the June 1, 2014 and after rates.

Current Rates VS. New Rates Post June 1, 2014

Delta, of course has spun this increase as necessary due its significant investment in upgrading their premium cabins. Delta also pointed to the fact that as of June 2014 Delta will be the only US carrier offering full flat-bed seats w/ aisle access on its entire fleet of wide-body aircraft.

Here is the announcement from the Delta rep on Flyertalk this morning.
