50,000 Bonus Delta SkyMiles Offer From American Express

If you are looking to pick up some SkyMiles right now might be a good time to consider a Delta card from American Express. From now until September 8th American Express has increased the sign up bonus on both the personal and business versions of the Gold Delta SkyMiles card and also on personal version of the Platinum Delta SkyMiles card. While 50,000 bonus miles is not unheard of on these cards, it is uncommon to find these offers as publicly available offers. More often than not the 50k offers are targeted.

Keep American Expresses new policy of 1 sign up bonus per card type ever for personal cards. So if you have already had the personal Gold or Platinum card, per the terms, you will not be eligible for a sign up bonus again even if it has been several years. However, this policy currently only applies to personal cards and NOT business cards. The terms on the business card allow you to receive the offer as long as you have not had the card within the last 12 months.

Gold Delta SkyMiles – Personal

  • 50,000 bonus miles after $1,000 in purchases w/in first 3 months
  • $50 statement credit for a Delta purchase w/in first 3 months
  • $95 annual fee waived the 1st year

Gold Delta SkyMiles – Business

  • 50,000 bonus miles after $1,000 in purchases w/in first 3 months
  • $50 statement credit for a Delta purchase w/in first 3 months
  • $95 annual fee waived the 1st year

Platinum Delta SkyMiles – Personal

  • 50,000 bonus miles after $1,000 in purchases w/in first 3 months
  • 15,000 bonus MQM’s after $1,000 in purchases w/in first 3 months
  • $100 statement credit for a Delta purchase w/in first 3 months
  • $195 annual fee NOT WAIVED

The two Gold Delta SkyMiles card offers are pretty good but not having the $195 annual fee waived the 1st year is a deal breaker for me on the Platinum SkyMiles card simply because I know that same offer a couple times per year w/ the annual fee waived the 1st year (and w/out the statement credit). But if you are in need of some extra MQM’s to get you to the next Medallion level before the year-end then you might want to jump on this.

One of my parents signed up for the Gold personal card a few months ago, I forget who. Can he or she sign up for the Platinum personal card and earn the increased sign-up bonus? Also, is it possible to earn the statement credit by buying a Delta gift card (one that can be used for Delta flights)?

    • Good question, In the past Amex always included the language that if you have had ANY Delta personal card in the past 12 months you were not eligible. However, with Amex new policy of 1 in a lifetime that language has vanished implying that it may be possible now. but of course, YMMV. I would suggest they call for clarification.

I had recently signed up for their personal card with 30K miles. Does Amex entertain customers request to match higher bonus if within 3 months (like Chase does)?
