3x or 5x Miles Promo With the US Airways Premier World MasterCard

With the impending conversion Dividend Miles to AAdvantage miles I am trying to stock up on as many Dividend miles as I can. The US Airways Premier card has been a great card with many different periodic promotions that I have tried to take advantage of.

earn 5x points on grocery movie theater and utility payments with us airways mastercard

Barclay’s has a new offer out for holders of the US Airways Premier World MasterCard for the 1st quarter of 2014 and it appears to be targeted again so check you emails. The new offer is giving bonus miles for purchases made at grocery stores, movie theaters, & utility payments but multiple of points per dollar varies. Some are receiving offers for 5x miles (4 extra per dollar) while others, such as myself, are receiving offers for 3x miles (2 extra per dollar).

Both offers cap out at a max of 2,500 bonus miles but those with the 5x offer will be able to achieve that more easily. I would probably make more of an effort to use the card if I had the 5x offer, but for 3x… I guess we will just have to see. Remember that you must activate the offer in order to earn the bonus miles.

It sounds like the US Airways card will still be around for a while so you still have plenty of time to get one and to stock up on Dividend Miles. Barclay’s has been known to offer some great random promotions to cardholders that make this card a must have such as the 50% Rebate on Award Redemption’s I was offered in October!! Or the 15,000 bonus miles just for spending $750 a month for 3 months I received this summer!

I’m really curious to know what will eventually happen with this card – I’m hoping it gets converted to an Arrival.

    • Jeremy - The Points Traveler says:

There is a lot of speculation that it will. However, I don’t see it happening anytime soon. If it does, I think I will apply for the arrival w/ sign up bonus 1st.

      • William says:

So you think it would be a straight conversion without any additional incentives such as a bonus? I mean either people got the card just for a sign up bonus or else they like to earn the miles/other card benefits. If the card no longer earns miles it seems like they would need to sweeten the deal to keep those people from moving spend to the Citi AA card.

        • Jeremy - The Points Traveler says:

I think a bonus of some type would be likely if the conversion happens. However, I don’t think it would be as good as the Arrival sign-up bonus and even if it is I would still want to apply for the Arrival card and get the new bonus before the conversion and get both!

Can you buy gift cards from a grocery store and get the bonus?

    • Jeremy - The Points Traveler says:

If you find one that will allow you to purchase with a credit card. There are some that do

    • Jennifer C. says:

You can usually buy gift cards (like Amazon, etc), but if you’re worried, you should easily be able to buy a gift card for that grocery store. (Buy a Vons gift card at Vons, for instance.)

      • Jeremy - The Points Traveler says:

Thanks for clarifying for me. I was thinking about Visa/MC gift cards when I responded. But yes, store gift cards like Amazon, grocery store, etc are much easier to purchase w/ credit card than Visa or MC gift cards.

Let me know what you are thinking!
